Over the last year I have been investigating the multidimentional relationship between lines through the lens of Tim Ingold’s LINES: A Brief History, exploring “threads” (3D lines), marks or traces (2D lines) and ghostly or conceptual lines. LANDSCAPE TRANSCRIPTIONS: Towards an Experimental Ecology of Line attempts to map or transcribe an ecology of relationship between threads, marks, traces, and conceptual lines in a small area of Mere (Wiltshire, UK) garden and surrounding chalk downland. It is a hyperlocal study, not just of place and the organisms (bird, fungus, insect, plant, human, animal) that compose this place, but of the linear compositional strategies employed and manifested by these organisms and my response to their live presence through representation. How does the artist map and reform the linear trajectories of these organisms creating and adding to a cumulative ecology of line?
